We make records the proper way, the human way, the tried and true way: a great experience in a great space means great performances and great tones.
This space is located in a 100-year old barn in the beautiful countryside of Essex County, Ontario. 2500 sq. feet are yours to realize whatever creative vision you may have. There is a massive live room perfect for recording drums, guitars, or anything else. There is a vintage Allen & Heath ML4000 console. There is natural light and limitless beauty. There is no end to what can happen here, be it recording, rehearsals, demoing, pre-production, video shoots, audiobooks, and anything else involving music or speech sounding great in a listener's ears.
The experience has its own perks as well. There are accommodations on site. There is a farmhouse. There is a hot tub and a firepit. There is a coffee roastery. There is a collective love of pets and a fenced-in yard. There is the magnificent, open land of Essex County. There is a heartbreaking sunset every evening. There is a studio staff full of creative ideas motivated by the undying love of recorded music. There is an amazing arts community of which we are a part. There is a communal copy of Our Band Could Be Your Life. There is a greenhouse. And most importantly: there is time.

Time Out Of Mind Recording Co. began in fall of 2025 when Sheila Roberts and Eamon McGrath of Cassettes Records partnered with Warren Rutgers of 14th Coffee Co. to bring that ethos to Essex County.
Like an extension of the legendary shows the team was producing in the 100-year old barn located on the 14th Coffee Co. property, Time Out Of Mind formed naturally as more and more bands asked about recording in the remote, secluded and hushed-about space.

Now the team boasts 2000 sq. ft. of room, all equipped to be used for tracking and production 24-hours a day from the hearth of the fire: a vintage Allen & Heath ML4000 console.

All clients can enjoy complimentary coffee thanks to 14th Coffee Co.
Dietary needs/restrictions and hospitality specifications to be advanced with studio management. Loft includes one full kitchen, one full bathroom (with a soaker tub). Farmhouse includes one full kitchen, two full bathrooms. With the price of food being what it is, we highly recommend not ordering pizza every day.
We are flexible and approachable people committed to making sure that a creative project is completed with the needs of the artist as our primary objective. Therefore, we can work with you and your budget to see what we can do for you and how.
Not every band needs to stay here, for example. Not every band wants to track all the instruments at the same place. Not every session has the same needs, and sometimes, with different needs come different costs.
Do you want to record live in front of an audience? Do you want us to source a film crew to shoot a promo performance video for your upcoming single? Do you want a great new mix for that shelved outtake you've been agonizing over for years?

Time Out of Mind is in Essex County, Ontario. We are remote, which means there are no grocery stores or bars nearby. But this is exactly WHY you come here: to escape the city, to come to a creative space, and to have a creative experience. Take advantage of it, and let us worry about keeping you fed and imbibed.
